Pershing LLC Leveraging Diversity Case Study

How would you like to be part of a company where employees feel like this:

  • 92% say that they are proud to be employees of this firm
  • 90% say they are committed and loyal
  • 81% truly believe that management effectively works with and supports their diverse workforce
  • 76% say they are consistently given job assignments that help them grow and develop

These comments from the latest Global Novations (Novations Group, Inc.) Diversity and Inclusion survey conducted at Pershing LLC.

Pershing LLC, a subsidiary of the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, knew that increasing engagement through diversity, and more critically, inclusion, was key for the firm to outperform its competition.

In partnership with Global Novations, the firm used an integrated combination of diversity and inclusion survey instruments, training, coaching, and internal programs in pursuit of a truly inclusive workplace.

The firm's goal was to establish an environment where full employee inclusion is systemic in both operations and culture, and explicitly tied to the firm's overall business goals. In other words, to "fundamentally integrate inclusion into Pershing's DNA" and create an environment in which inclusive practices clearly lead to higher levels of employee engagement and positive business results.

Pershing had a clear vision and goal and a very accelerated timeframe. Did they meet their inclusion goal?

2010 NNOA-ANSO Professional Development and Training Conference

Global Novations also facilitated a Speed Mentoring session for over 200 junior officers in the Sea Services, who were mentored by over 30 Flag and General Officers.

Junior officers sat with leaders with whom they have few opportunities to interact directly, and discussed questions about career development, overcoming challenges, key decisions, etc. Both protégés and mentors benefitted greatly from the interaction. One Marine Corps two-star General said, "This was a superb session!" as only a Marine can say.

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
Four Stages Asia Research

In partnership with Right Management and Leading Indicator Systems, Global Novations has just completed the Four Stages of Contribution Research 2010 Asia Report.

Global Novations (formerly Novations Group, Inc.) worked with a number of successful organizations in Asia to conduct innovative research on employee contribution and development. The aim of the research is to answer the question of how employees contribute to organizational success today, and how these same employees need to be developed in order to ensure similar success for tomorrow.

The report responses were received from managers and direct reports in seven organizations from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore. Like the US-based research, the report examines the reporting and perception disparity between managers and direct reports, and also examines differences across gender, ethnicity, generation/age, tenure, and nationality.

Global Novations VP of Global Partnerships and Four Stages Project Lead Paul Terry is currently presenting the findings in Asia. The report will available for US-based download soon, along with information that compares and contrasts the North American results with the Asian data.

Global Novations would like to extend special thanks to our partners at Right Management and Leading Indicator Systems, including  Zulinah Mooksan, Ronnie Tan Li Tong, Robert Lim, and Dr. Bill Nolan and team.
