Culture College® promotes exceptional interest in and familiarity with another culture by immersing participants in an environment that simulates that culture, and allows them to learn by physically exploring and interacting with the new surroundings. Participants are invited to learn about the culture by handling the artifacts and interacting with the cultural experts, who are also prepared to proactively point out aspects of the culture that "sojourners" should notice.
The Culture College® may be a discrete event or a powerful component to a more traditional culture-familiarization program. Objectives of the event can be custom tailored to your organization and can include: making it easy and fun to learn about other cultures, understanding consumer needs of another culture, creating familiarity with several cultures in a short time, and so forth.
By the end of this session, participants will: • Develop an openness to learning about other cultures • Feel familiar and comfortable with another cultures • Notice connections among various elements of a culture for deeper learning • Share a common experience with fellow "sojourners" to enable more effective dialogue; during work projects involving the culture in question • Explore cultural topics of particular concern with a cultural expert • Develop understanding and connections with team members from the culture presented
Audience Individuals who need to gain rapid familiarity with a culture or cultures due to business needs or hesitancy to learning the culture, and intact or cross-functional teams who could deliver a business project more effectively if they had a common experience and framework of a culture.
Examples of cultural areas: • African-American • Asian/Asian Pacific Islander • Differently-Abled • Generations • Hispanic • Middle Eastern
